Before the first Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration in 1939, Strolling Jim had been shown over the South to win twelve straight walking horse sweepstake classes.

In 1939 Strolling Jim was also Champion three year old gelding. He was Reserve World Grand Champion in 1941, defeated by Haynes Peacock. In 1943 he was Reserve World Grand Champion, defeated by Black Angel.
